Our History
GenFlex Building Products is founded in Maumee, Ohio, as one of the first dedicated single-ply commercial roofing manufacturers, with a focus on delivering practical, installer-friendly systems that could compete with traditional built-up roofing.
GenFlex introduces its first EPDM membrane systems, featuring reinforced and non-reinforced sheets designed for ballasted, adhered and mechanically attached installations. The brand becomes known for reliable product performance and responsive technical support.
Expansion into primers, adhesives and flashing accessories gives roofers a complete, compatible system — an early move toward the “single source” concept still valued today.
GenFlex begins developing thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) systems, anticipating the industry’s shift toward heat-welded membranes that offer cleaner installation and reflective surfaces.
Omnova acquires GenFlex, providing resources for national expansion and manufacturing scale.
The commercial release of GenFlex TPO positions the brand as a leader in value-driven, single-ply innovation—offering lightweight, reflective and energy-efficient systems that are easy to install and maintain.
Firestone acquires GenFlex to strengthen its position in the value and distribution-focused segments of the roofing market. GenFlex gains access to larger-scale manufacturing, testing and R&D capabilities while maintaining its independent identity and installer-first culture.
GenFlex expands into fully adhered TPO, self-adhered systems and enhanced warranties to meet evolving code and performance standards. Product line grows to include polyiso insulation, cover boards and edge metal, offering distributors complete system coverage.
Firestone Building Products (including GenFlex) is acquired by Holcim, marking the brand’s integration into a global building materials leader. This sets the stage for renewed investment and modernization.
Holcim restructures its Building Envelope division into Amrize, establishing GenFlex as one of its core commercial roofing brands, targeting new-to-commercial and mid-tier roofers through distributor-centric growth.
GenFlex redefines its strategic pillars and launches smaller TPO and EPDM roll sizes, ModBit and ModBit SA and asphalt-based systems.
