Posted by on January 19, 2022 in Bulletin, Technical Bulletin | Comments Off on Painting of Single-Ply Membrane

Technical Bulletin: Painting of Single-Ply Membrane   GenFlex is sometimes asked to approve the application of painted logos on GenFlex single-ply membranes. Maintaining the building owner’s warranted GenFlex roofing system in a serviceable condition is of primary concern when considering any form of overburden, that is, any type of structure, covering, or surfacing that limits or restricts GenFlex’s ability to investigate and repair the warranted GenFlex roofing system. GenFlex considers paints and other surfacing that are not necessary for the performance of the GenFlex roofing system as overburden.   There are numerous brands of tintable paints and coatings on the market. An Owner should choose the one that works best for...

Fall Roof Maintenance

Posted by on September 20, 2021 in Bulletin | Comments Off on Fall Roof Maintenance

Like it or not, summer is over! Autumn is upon us. On the bright side, fall is a great time for many of us to enjoy the changing foliage, and the cooler weather can be a welcome reprieve from the hot days of summer. Fall is also an important time to inspect your roof. You may choose to perform an inspection yourself or call in a GenFlex Licensed Applicator to conduct a more comprehensive inspection. Fall inspections are important since they can uncover damage from summer storms, but fall is also a good time to perform needed maintenance to prepare your roof for winter.   What to Look For You want to look for physical damage to the roof such as cuts, punctures, or tears in the roofing membrane or flashings. For a low-sloped roof, a...

How to Achieve the Most Efficient Thermal Roof Insulation

Posted by on June 23, 2021 in Bulletin, Marketing Bulletins | Comments Off on How to Achieve the Most Efficient Thermal Roof Insulation

We often get asked, ‘Can you make 5.2-inch thick polyiso?’ or ‘Can you make 8-inch ISO?’   Even if we could, there’s a good reason to use multiple, thinner layers of insulation. Whenever you need a layer of insulation, you actually need TWO layers of insulation! If a single layer of rigid foam insulation boards gets used, there’s a high risk of heat gain or loss at all of the joints between the boards. These areas are called “Cold” insulation joints, and maybe you’ve even seen them: when the heat escapes up through a light dusting of snow on the rooftop, melting a neat 4’x8’ grid pattern.   Use Multiple Layers of Polyiso with Joints Offset The best practice is to always use multiple layers of insulation, with the...
